Child Protective Services Background Search The Central Registry

Client Information System (CIS) is the computer system that contains information related to child abuse, and neglect investigations conducted by local departments of social services. The department maintains a Child Protective Services information system for three primary purposes.

The central registry of indicated/unsubstantiated investigations is searched only upon receipt of the individual’s notarized request.

If there is a receipt of a court order there is no fee charged for this search. Searches are conducted when screening for employment or volunteer activities in which the individual will come into contact with children (child caring institutions, schools, Court Appointed Special Advocate programs, etc.), foster and adoptive parenting approval and assessment of custody petitions.

If you require a Child Protective Services Background Search, please complete a Child Protective Services Background Clearance Form. The form should be sent to the local department in the area you resided at the time you received services from CPS.
