Program Description:
|
The Burial Assistance Program is available to help with funeral
expenses of deceased recipients of Family Investment programs when
their families can not afford funeral costs.

Eligibility:
|
The Burial Assistance Program helps families of people by providing a
benefit to their family when the deceased individual was either receiving
assistance or met the eligibility requirements of a program administered
by the Department of Human Resources. Such programs may include - Foster
Care, Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), SSI recipients and Medical
Assistance. A newborn child who was not a part of the TCA assistance and
individuals receiving TDAP (Temporary Disability Assistance Program) can apply also.
The program provides a grant not to exceed $650 when funeral expenses
total less than $1500. The cost of burial plots, vaults, grave digging,
and burial clothing contributed by family members and friends may be
excluded when counting funeral expenses.

You must file an application for Burial Assistance to find out if the
deceased meets the eligibility requirements. To do this, contact the
Local Departments of
Social Services in the city of county where they resided.
