Farmers’ Market Grant Application

Maryland’s Department of Human Resources is pleased to announce it has received funds from the United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service to increase Food Supplement Program (FSP) customers’ access to fresh foods at farmers markets. Maryland’s funding will reimburse approved farmers markets to help cover the costs of purchasing or leasing wireless point of sale equipment. Each approved farmers market can receive up to $2,200.00. This is the second year farmers’ markets can take advantage of this funding that will allow SNAP customers to use food stamps or their debit cards to purchase healthy, fresh, local foods. Last year 9 farmers markets took advantage of the funding and have seen increases in the number of people at the markets.

The application deadline has been extended until April 15, 2013.
