The Victims of Crime Assistance Program

The Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA) Program is funded through the Federal Victims of Crime Act funds from the U.S. Department of Justice(DOJ) Office for Victims of Crime. These funds are targeted for all crime victims but the three priority areas for services to victims identified by the Department of Justice are domestic violence, rape/sexual assault, and child abuse.

Crime victim services are available throughout the State. However, not every jurisdiction has specific services for each crime victim category. Annual funding from DOJ depends upon fines and penalties levied against criminals convicted of federal crimes.

These funds are used to respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims, assist victims and their families to stabalize their lives after a victimization, assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system and to provide victims with a measure of safety and security wheather it be provision of temporary shelter or the replacement or repair of locks at their home.
