DHR employees show their generosity

We recently closed out the 2012 Maryland Combined Charities campaign pledge drive. Though we are only the fourth largest state agency, once again DHR employees lead all participating state departments in giving. I am proud of you all and appreciate everyone who contributed to making 2012 such a successful campaign. Many more Maryland residents will be able get the help that they need because of your generosity.

The following is a report from Bonnie Ariano, who did a tremendous job coordinating DHR’s Combined Charities Campaign:

As of Jan. 30, DHR has brought in $330,771 in pledges, far exceeding both last year’s pledge amount of $299,723 and Secretary Dallas’ goal of $300,000 for this year’s campaign. Of all of the state departments that participate in the Maryland Charity Campaign, DHR has raised the most money.

This is a fitting acknowledgment of the commitment and dedication that DHR staff have to the men, women and children of Maryland who rely on us for the resources necessary to improve the quality of their lives. The passion of our DHR staff clearly extends beyond what we as a government agency can provide and into support for those community programs and partners who continue to work with these families.

DHR employees were able to speak with various charities during a MCC kickoff event in August.

To date, 2,088 employees made generous pledges to charities of their choice and more pledges continue to come in. These employees represent 12 departments within DHR central administration and all 24 of our local Departments of Social Services. A dedicated group of MCC coordinators deserves special recognition for rallying their coworkers, encouraging their pledges and creating special events and activities to raise funds and allow all employees to participate in giving. These included raffles and auctions, craft days, food sales, dress-down days and a pumpkin carving contest. The coordinators were very creative! Over $14,000 was raised from these events.

There will be a special thank you event for those donating in the Leadership category and to all coordinators, with particular acknowledgment of those raising the most funds, as United Way brings the 2012 Maryland Charity Campaign to a close.
